ULA'S STORY
Ula's impact on our lives is immeasurable. She was a source of light and wisdom, and her memory will continue to guide us. This platform is a tribute to her enduring spirit and the legacy she leaves behind.
Ula was born on June 8th, 2007 at 3:35 pm in Tulum Mexico after a lengthy labour and a long waiting period of sixteen days past her due date. But when she came to this world, she came out with a full head of hair, curious eyes and a lightness about here. She was our golden child. Our Ulita. Our little brown eyed girl. Our Jewel of the sea and apple of our eyes.
She learned how to speak before she was one and walked before she crawled. She was lista. A term we used in Mexico for 'ready'. She was bright and lively and charming and social. She was our everything right from the start.
Ula passed away on the 10th of December 2023. She was the light of our lives; smart, funny, gifted, artistic, and athletic. She was responsible and a good friend to many. She was a leader and performer. Ula was an incredible girl who's life was forever altered by the pandemic, social media, and the unregulated toxic drug supply. She lived a full life making art and playing hockey and swimming in both Lake Ontario ad the Caribbean. She grew up on the beaches of Mexico and the Toronto Island. She was very confident and brave and cared so much for others. Her empathy was her Achilles heel as she began to bring more and more vulnerable kids to our home. She wanted to save them all. She still has a large group of friends that are connected to our family. And we all miss her so very much.
SHE SHOULD STILL BE HERE

CBC News
CBC Toronto News covered an event at Trinity Bellwoods Park where Amanda was the keynote speaker on harm reduction.

In the wake of her devastating loss, Amanda is facing unimaginable challenges, both emotional and financial. Despite her grief, she is determined to honour Ula by raising awareness and helping others through her writing, research, legislative advocacy and awareness projects (future book/videos). Your donation will provide crucial support for mounting expenses, including upcoming legal fees, and will enable Amanda to continue her important work.
